Gotland Sheep were originally developed by Vikings over 1000 years ago on the island of Gotland in the Baltic.
They were kept for their meat and skins which kept the Vikings warm
in the cold winters.

They are a member
of a primitive group called Northern Short Tailed sheep. Gotlands are
very friendly sheep
which are hardy and easy to care for.
The fine fleece is silvery grey, lustrous and curly. It is versatile and very warm. The fleece is
also one of the few
that is excellent for
felt making.
